Virgin Gorda

She is known as Virgin Gorda which sounds tropically seductive. It actually means “Fat Virgin,” – translated, perhaps less becoming. But, fat or not, as seen through the eys of Christopher Columbus, this Caribbean gem is beautiful. The story goes that Columbus saw this island as a pre...

Getting Married? Don't Do it! Not until you do this...

Before marriage – Try a canoe trip!

Lessons learned. There are some things you need to do before going down the aisle. Forget about "We live together - we don't have a problem" or "We are happy and have been for months".
There's one test that beats them all to find out if you're marrying the right person. I'm not kidding.....this is the true acid test.....I know. Been there, done that!

Before the honeymoon – before the idea of going down on one knee or accepting a proposal of marriage…STOP!
There is something you need to do first. I can attest to the fact that travel is one of the most powerful indicators of compatibility.
You may live with your intended and things are okay but try traveling with them. Don’t opt for the luxury resort – that’s too easy and papers over the cracks.
No, you need to do something that involves lots of fun but some stress and requirements of working together toward a favourable outcome.
Take a 5 day trip down a river in a Kayak or canoe. This is a perfect test. My experience was with a woman who I really loved – but even though I was living with her, there was a niggling doubt that we were compatible on the most important levels. I will call her Mandy for the sake of anonymity and my personal safety.....More

Sightseeing Antarctica

There are few experiences I can say about my travel explorations that have really stayed with me in vivid detail. This one surprised me. Honestly, I was not excited about a cruise to another snow and ice covered land. After many cruise seasons as staff and CD on cruise ships in Alaska, I figured I was in serious ice, snow and cold overdose.
It was amazing. Jaded as I thought I may be, I grudgingly headed off to the south. I'm not sure I can adequately put into words to describe the experience. Suffice to say, I got way more then I bargained for.
Check out this highlight itinerary and know it is, in a pun, the tip of the iceberg!
Experience the adventure of a lifetime as you journey by cruise ship to the unrivaled continent of Antarctica!
  • 20-day Antarctica cruise round-trip from Ushuaia
  • Cruise via the Beagle Channel to the Falkland Islands
  • Spot fur seals and elephant seals on the remote island of South Georgia, and enjoy the antics of rockhopper, Magellanic and king penguins
  • Cross the Antarctic Convergence and the legendary Drake Passage
  • Ride on Zodiacs past icebergs and whales in the Southern Ocean to the Shetland Islands
  • Hear from marine biologists, historians, geologists and other onboard specialists
  • Spend time in the world’s southernmost town – charming Ushuaia
